A little bit of recognition goes a long way :)

I just noticed (on the award page for the Book Blogger Appreciation Week) that I have been longlisted for the Best Written Blog Award (along with 22 others, but I’ll take any recognition I can get!).  If any of you voted for me at the pre-voting stage – thank you very much 🙂

I won’t be writing a speech just yet though 😉

  1. Apparently, what happens next is that during the voting period, some anonymous judges look at my site for a matter of minutes (or seconds – my records tell me that someone looked at six pages in 26 seconds then left again…), before kicking me off the shortlist! Again, the only way I know this is because my name is now not on the updated voting list.

I'm a little underwhelmed by BBAW so far…

  2. All the people who looked at my site also only looked for a couple seconds at a time. I figured they were just writing me off. Now, though, I have a feeling they all bounced off each link on different pages before perusing them, so it looks weird in the statcounters. I'm not sure what the second lists were considered – not short lists, though. Like medium lists or something.

Did you participate in BBAW last year? The best part really has nothing to do with the awards. The week-of is a weeklong festival of book blogger celebration, including interview swaps and bookish topics. It's a good way to meet new people.

Next year, I'm actually not going to sign up to be considered for an award. Just to vote and participate in the other stuff.

  3. I hope the week is better than the build up; I haven't been impressed so far. Also, a lot of talk in my circle of bloggers (and tweeters) has been on the lack of focus on translated and classic literature. It does all seem a little parochial to be honest (I hadn't heard of the majority of the books on the Best Reads lists).

Still, I suppose I'll find out soon enough if it's worth it 🙂

  4. A couple of us have put in our votes/suggestions for there to be a classics blogger category next year. At some point they'll hand out a suggestion sheet and that would be a great thing to mention!

The reason there's a lack of classic lit on the list though is because it's celebrating the Sept 2009 to Aug 2010 year. Translated lit, I can't answer for though.
