September 2017 Wrap-Up

September has seen a bit of a reaction after a couple of big reading months.  A combination of returning to work and rereading a lengthy German classic means that numbers are down in terms of both books read and reviewed.  Still, that’s relative, of course, and I’ve still managed to pump out a couple of reviews each week to keep my readers entertained (all seven of them…).  For more details, let’s go to this month’s stats 🙂

Tony’s Turkey for September is: Nothing

Once again, nothing to report on the turkey front – eight fairly enjoyable books make up this month’s selection of posts.

Tony’s Recommendation for September is:
Andrés Barba’s Such Small Hands

As tempted as I am to opt for Donald Keene’s trip through Japanese literary history, it’s hard to go past Barba’s excellent novella about the cruelty of young minds and what happens when love and hate intertwine so closely you can’t tell the difference…

*****
October promises much of the same, with Japanese and Korean fiction featuring heavily (as usual), but I will be shifting gears towards the end of the month.  November isn’t too far away, and we all know what that means.  It’s time to get out the metaphysical toolbox and start servicing the bus for another month of literary journeys around central Europe – auf Deutsch, natürlich 😉
